WHAT’S THE SCOOP?AN ENRICHMENT FAIR NO G/T KID WANTS TO MISS! SCOOP (Saturday Co-Op) is a fun-filled day of events sponsored by the Garland Area Parent Association for Gifted and Talented (GAPAGT).The event is an enrichment opportunity for gifted and talented GISD students in elementary and middle school.The day is designed to stimulate individual interests, encourage creativity, and provide interaction with other bright minds by offering them exciting and unique sessions that are beyond the scope of their regular educational program. It is typically held the Saturday after the long standardized testing week in the spring.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS? OPTIONS are Outstanding Programs That Inspire Our Next-Gen Students. In the past, they have included chess, chemistry, robotics, paper airplanes, crafts, secret codes, computers, disaster preparedness, amateur radio, stand-up comedy and board games. Class sessions offered are entirely dependent on who volunteers to teach a class.
WHO CAN ATTEND? SCOOP is open to all students in GISD currently enrolled in grades 1-5 and 6-8 who are already identified and participating in the Gifted and Talented Program (G/T).
HOW MUCH DOES THE GREAT EVENT COST? Registration is $10 per student if parents are GAPAGT members, or $15 per student for non-members.Membership is $20 annually and helps us sponsor great programs like this! VOLUNTEER PERKS! SCOOP is a labor of love and volunteers are needed to help run it.As a Co-Op event, students of volunteers can receive a 50% discount on registration fees if the parent attends the volunteer orientation session.Sessions offered depend on who volunteers to teach a class.
